I wrote a post early in the summer about Flashes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to capturing portraits of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. I got reminded recently about it when I ran into the question of “what have I contributed to as a photographer”.

I am forever inspired by the strength these children have.

My heart is lifted by the smile and joy that illuminates their face.

I am so proud of my friend Katie Mahoney for her willingness to participate in such a cause. I was humbled that she asked me to be her assistant. My experience with Flashes of Hope has been the greatest contribution I have done as a photographer, even though I wasn’t the one behind the camera. Helping to cajole a smile from their wonderful faces, priceless.

Monday, May 7th was the charity event for Dress for Success Hartford “Capital Catwalk” at the Hartford Stage. It featured the latest spring fashion modeled by community leaders and local celebrities, such as the crew from Channel 3, WFSB-TV Hartford (Al Terzi, Denise D’Ascenzo, Kara Sundlun, Irene O’Connor, Scot Haney, Mark Dixon, to name a few).

The night also included samples of delectable hors d’oeuvres from area restaurants and ended with an auction where proceeds go directly to programs helping disadvantaged women get jobs, receive coaching, and achieve self esteem.
