A Week of Photography in Review

I graduated from Hallmark Institute of Photography and walked away not only with a great education but some wonderful friends. We just finished a workshop in Balboa, CA and it was amazing. Having my colleagues around was an aphrodisiac and I took so many photos. Everyday that I held my camera, I looked at my environment differently. Nothing was normal anymore.

Following are some of my favorite takes.

Studio, Public and Functional Art

I was enlightened by Nancy Braver on how simple pieces, such as acrylic, steel and cable can create wondrous forms of art. Her interpretation of light, space and form is a feast for the eyes and mind. If ever an opportunity arises for you to see Nancy Braver’s work, please take it, for photos alone are never enough.

Deborah Freedman

I attended artist Deborah Freedman’s “Disturbed Landscapes” opening on May 3rd at the Amos Eno Gallery in New York and it was enjoyable seeing her fine art work. Along with her fine art, she’s also well known in the photo industry for her custom backdrops.

Definitely a must for photographers “to-do” is to take some time to visit museums and galleries. For me, it wasn’t just about the artist or the painting. Rather, it was a different visual experience where I walked away feeling mentally refreshed because I looked and saw more than the obvious.
